Chivas Regal 12 is one of the most recognisable bottles on a UK shelf. You’ve seen it in the supermarket, in the drinks cabinet at a party, probably on offer more than once. But if you’re anything like us, there’s a question that’s been nagging at the back of your mind: is it actually good value, or is it just a famous name?
That’s the question this series is going to answer properly, and honestly. Not with a one-line verdict, but by actually getting to know the whisky. This is the first part of that journey, and we’d love you to come along.
Why this bottle, and why value matters
We could have started with an obscure single malt that nobody’s heard of. But that wouldn’t be much use. Chivas Regal 12 is a whisky millions of people have seen, and many have wondered about. It’s affordable — typically around the £24–£32 mark for a 70cl bottle, depending where you shop — which means it’s in the sweet spot where most of us actually make buying decisions.
Value is the whole point of this site. We’re not here to chase the most expensive thing on the shelf. We want to know which bottles are worth the money, and which ones you’d be better off skipping. Chivas Regal 12 is a perfect place to start, because it’s a blend — not a single malt — and blends have a bit of an unfair reputation that we’ll dig into.
